Cape Town Camerata AUDITIONS

Cape Town Camerata (formerly: Cape Town Youth Choir) is always looking for true “choir geeks” to join us: singers who strive to “acquire Kung Fu” and who wish to be part of a group of like-minded people.

We are specifically looking for altos, tenors and basses -as we’ve already had a wonderful response from sopranos.

Before you audition, consider this:

We are at the start of a journey that will take us to Hungary in early July 2026. Ideally members that join now must commit to this journey.

CTC currently practices twice a week in the City Bowl; on Tuesday evenings and on Friday evenings (6:30pm till 8:30pm).

A solid fundamental knowledge of music theory is essential. The minimum requirement is a pass rate of 80% on this online practice test (Select Grade1 exam.) New choir members might be asked to complete a similar written test at one of their first rehearsals. (There are loads of free online resources where singers can download information to improve their theory skills, e.g. here, here and here.)

New choir members must commit to:

  • attending rehearsals
  • learning some music at home so that they come to each rehearsal with a reasonable amount of preparation
  • Improve their sight-reading skills

Audition Process:

Please complete the online form at this link and we will get back you to. It is also safer to send an email to info@ctyc.co.za informing us that you completed the form.

Audition Process: Step one will be sending a WhatsApp voice-note of yourself singing an a cappella song.

Step two will be joining for a probation period of two or three weeks. At the end of that period, you will have the opportunity to decide if you feel whether the choir is meeting your expectations, and your voice group will have the opportunity to vote whether they feel you are a good fit.
